TC Daily Pit Stop: Wednesday, November 13th, 2024
We have reached the offseason… It’s weird. For 10 months it feels like the NASCAR season is so long, but as it winds down each year, we find ourselves asking, “How is it already over?!”
Elton Sawyer: NASCAR ‘Open’ to Making Tweaks to Playoff Format
Joey Logano took home the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series championship, and all credit to him and crew chief Paul Wolfe. They did what the format laid out for them to do, and they took a championship. However, a driver finishing the season with just seven top-five finishes, and an average finish of 17.1 (both all-time worst marks) didn’t sit well with NASCAR fans.
On Tuesday, NASCAR’s Elton Sawyer explained on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio that the sanctioning body is open to tweaking the Playoff format in 2025.
"We're going to have Playoffs, we're going to have a Playoff format, but what we will do, is we will take input from our fans, our competitors, and our industry stakeholders this off-season, and if there is a way to tweak it, make it better, we will do that," Sawyer said.
