TC Daily Pit Stop: Saturday, October 21, 2024
Man, just when you feel like he’s an afterthought, Joey Logano rises to the occasion. Happy Monday to fans of the No. 22 Team Penske Ford Mustang, you’re likely going to like today’s edition of the newsletter.
Joey Logano Uses Fuel Gamble to Beat Dominant Christopher Bell at Las Vegas
Joey Logano had a good car throughout Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but he didn’t have a race-winning car. Christopher Bell absolutely dominated the race, but in the final Stage of the race, Paul Wolfe reached into his strategy bag, and pulled out a winner of a move for Logano.
Logano made his final pit stop in the race on Lap 195, during a caution for a spinning Ty Gibbs. Logano would have to manage his fuel load, and his time advantage on Bell, who was knifing his way through the field, all while trying to get ahead of Daniel Suarez for the lead. He pulled it off masterfully, and Bell came up just short of chasing Logano down.
With the win, the 35th of his NASCAR Cup Series career, Logano, who snuck into the Round of 8 of the Playoffs thanks to a disqualification of Alex Bowman the week before at the Charlotte ROVAL, is heading to the Championship 4 with a shot at his third-career NASCAR Cup Series championship.
