Denny Hamlin Questions NASCAR Officiating After Another Week of Inconsistent Calls
Denny Hamlin was critical of NASCAR’s officiating team on this week’s Actions Detrimental podcast following a messy Talladega race, which came on the heels of questionable calls at Watkins Glen, and Kansas Speedway.
Hamlin said, “This finishing order of Talladega was a sham at best,” and while he wants to be fair to the officiating team because he knows it’s not an easy job, “it is also understanding that they need to do a much better job than they are doing, and eventually we have to hold people accountable for not doing their job that well.”
Hamlin, and numerous others were upset with the DVP rule being circumvented by the sanctioning body after the big crash on Lap 183. Despite not being able to drive from the crash site, NASCAR towed cars, including Chase Elliott and Chase Briscoe back to pit road and allowed them to perform repairs.
They also resumed the yellow flag before the pace car was actually able to move, which gave those towed cars a couple of minutes of repairs on pit road without worry of losing a lap. The sanctioning body also missed a hole in the door of Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s car, which was obviously missing impact-absorbing door foam.
