TC Daily Pit Stop: Monday, August 26, 2024
What a race weekend! Daytona and the Milwaukee Mile delivered two first-time race winners. Now, we head into the final NASCAR Cup Series race weekend of the regular season — the Southern 500 at Darlington.
Harrison Burton Scores 100th NASCAR Cup Series Win for Wood Brothers Racing at Daytona
With just 12 races left in his Wood Brothers Racing tenure, Harrison Burton put an end to three seasons of frustration. The 23-year-old son of Jeff Burton took a dramatic win in a thrilling overtime finish in Saturday night’s NASCAR Cup Series Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona.
Utilizing a push from Parker Retzlaff, Burton surged ahead of Kyle Busch for the lead on the backstretch on the final lap of the race. Try as he might, Busch just couldn’t get back by Burton. Off the exit of Turn 4, Busch weaved high, and was blocked, then he darted low, which Burton also expertly defended.
Burton would cross the finish line for the 100th victory in Wood Brothers Racing history.
