Van Gisbergen Outruns Zilisch for Sonoma Xfinity Pole

No surprise, Shane van Gisbergen is off to a fast start a week after his nearly flawless race weekend at the Chicago Street Course. SVG, who swept the poles and race wins in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and Cup Series a weekend ago, started another round of double duty this weekend at Sonoma Raceway with another Xfinity Series pole as he topped Connor Zilisch on Friday.

SVG’s pole-winning run came on the strength of a 75.259-second (95.191 mph) lap around the 1.99-mile Sonoma Raceway in NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifying.

“Qualifying, to be front row for our team, thank you to JR Motorsports, our car is really, really good,” Van Gisbergen said after qualifying. “Yeah, I was having fun out there, and awesome to have my friends from Australia, Quad Lock, back on the car, and yeah, looking forward to the race tomorrow.”

Sam Mayer will start in third behind the JR Motorsports duo on the front row on Saturday, while Jesse Love and William Sawalich rounded out the top-five qualifiers.
