Tyler Reddick Squeezes Through Last-Lap Carnage for Talladega Victory
Needless to say, the first of two annual trips to Talladega Superspeedway for the NASCAR Cup Series provided a significant amount of carnage, and similar to the Fall 2012 event at the racetrack, most of it waited until the final lap.
Tyler Reddick, who along with polesitter Michael McDowell maintained control of Sunday’s GEICO 500 for the final 30 laps, walked away with the victory at the 2.66-mile superspeedway, despite barely holding onto a top-five spot when the field exited Turn 4 for the final time.
But, it was a wild sequence of events in the race’s final seconds that ended up being the catalyst for the 23XI Racing driver earning his sixth career win in the NASCAR Cup Series, with team co-owner Michael Jordan in attendance, and his brand on the race car.
Brad Keselowski was second, with Noah Gragson, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. and Alex Bowman rounding out the top-five. Anthony Alfredo, William Byron, Todd Gilliland, Daniel Hemric, and Harrison Burton rounded out the top-10.

UPDATE: Erik Jones Released from Local Hospital After Vicious Talladega Crash
Erik Jones, driver of the No. 43 Family Dollar Toyota Camry XSE, has been released from UAB University Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, per LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, after a gnarly accident in the final stage of Sunday’s GEICO 500.
Jones initially climbed from his car with assistance from medical crews, before being checked and released from the infield care center. Following the race, NASCAR confirmed Jones had returned to the care center, and been brought to a local hospital.
The statement from LEGACY MOTOR CLUB didn’t offer any other specifics on Jones’ condition or what potential injury led to the additional hospital evaluation.

Anthony Alfredo Caps Off Successful Talladega Weekend with Career-Best Finishes in Cup and Xfinity
Dude, what a weekend for Anthony Alfredo, who piloted the DUDE Wipes Chevrolet Camaros for Our Motorsports in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and Beard Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup Series to career best finishes at Talladega Superspeedway.
Alfredo, who scored an electric third-place finish in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Ag-Pro 300, finished the weekend off with an incredible sixth-place effort in the GEICO 500.
While Alfredo was able to steer clear of the last-lap chaos, he didn’t luck into his career-best NASCAR Cup Series finish. The 25-year-old driver was near the front virtually all day long, and he even took the lead of the race three times, and was the leader for a total of four laps on the day.
“This was certainly a great race for us,” Alfredo said with a smile on his face. “Drove to the front, led a lot of laps, had good speed all day long, and put ourself in position at the end and we were able to capitalize on some of the late-race chaos there and crossed the line in the top-10. Just shy of the top-five, that would have been great, new best Cup Series finish for me though. Just pumped about it really.”
