Ty Gibbs Rockets to First Career Pole for NASCAR’s Longest Race
Ty Gibbs secured his first NASCAR Cup Series pole position Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway, and the driver of the No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry XSE will lead the field to green in the Coca-Cola 600. William Byron will start from the outside pole.
While the pole position is nice, the 21-year-old racer has his sights on scoring his first-career NASCAR Cup Series win.
“It’s really cool to get the pole here for my first time in the Coca-Cola 600, but, for me, I think the biggest thing is winning the race,” Gibbs emphasized. “The pole is great. It helps us out a lot, but it doesn’t win us the race.”

Reddick to Drop to Rear, Serve Pass Thru Penalty in Coca-Cola 600 Due to Underwing Adjustment
Following inspection at Charlotte Motor Speedway, NASCAR discovered an unapproved adjustment to the underwing on Tyler Reddick’s No. 45 23XI Racing Toyota Camry. Due to the unapproved adjustment, Reddick will have to drop to the rear of the field for Sunday’s race, and he’ll have to serve a pass-thru penalty after the start of the Coca-Cola 600.
The No. 45 team will also be without their car chief for the remainder of the weekend, and Reddick was required to make a qualifying run in order to not give the 45 team an advantage of having an additional set of sticker tires than the field.

Herbst Hints He’ll Repay Allmendinger Next Weekend at Portland
After being wiped out in an incident on Lap 30 of Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series BetMGM 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Riley Herbst was not a happy camper in regards to AJ Allmendinger, who he felt hooked him on the exit of Turn 2.
After being evaluated and released from the infield care center at the 1.5-mile speedway in Concord, North Carolina, Herbst was still seething after what he felt was an avoidable incident with Allmendinger.
Herbst hinted that he may make Allmendinger’s weekend next week at his favorite track, one to forget.
“I haven’t seen a replay. I passed him twice, cleanly. Slid him. Racing at Charlotte, it’s hot. I passed him. I think next weekend is Portland, his favorite race track. We’ll see what happens,” Herbst stated.
