TC Daily Pit Stop: Truex in Jeopardy of Playoff Elimination at Bristol; Spire Forgoes NASCAR Xfinity Entry at Bristol; Bristol Entry Lists Are Here!
TC Daily Pit Stop: Tuesday, September 12th, 2023
A few weeks ago it would have been unfathomable to think that Martin Truex Jr., the NASCAR Cup Series regular-season champion, could be eliminated from the Playoffs in the Round of 16. But, after two rough outings to start the 2023 Playoffs that is the reality that Truex and his No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing team are staring down, as they have a date with Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend.
Truex was frustrated by an overall lack of pace in the Southern 500, which led to an 18th-place finish at Darlington. The team went back to the drawing board, and brought great speed to Kansas Speedway. But bad luck did them in there.
A cut tire on Lap 4 sent Truex into the outside wall, which ended his day, and placed him seven points below the Playoff cutline.
Spire Motorsports, which had originally planned to enter the NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Bristol Motor Speedway with the No. 77 entry, has opted to forgo the event. The team confirmed the decision to TobyChristie.com on Monday.
The team had announced back in March, that Bristol was part of a six-race schedule for the part-time Spire Motorsports NASCAR Xfinity Series team. Carson Hocevar, who is in the midst of battling for a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship, was scheduled to compete in the car.
But when LEGACY MOTOR CLUB announced Hocevar as the interim driver of the No. 42 car for Bristol, changes needed to be made.
