Denny Hamlin Scores Rain-Shortened Victory in SRX Debut at Stafford
Mother Nature just isn’t a racing fan, lately. The much anticipated 2023 Camping World SRX Racing season-opener on ESPN’s Thursday Night Thunder ended in a weather-shortened finish.
Denny Hamlin, who was making his series debut, dominated the event and was leading in the No. 11 FedEx Express machine when the weather ended the race on lap 58 of the 75-lap scheduled distance.
After the race, Hamlin tweeted, “1 for 1. Think I’ll retire. Thanks SRXracing & StaffordSpeedwy”
Ryan Newman would be the highest-finishing full-time SRX driver as he came home in the runner-up spot, 0.761 sec. behind Hamlin.

Dale Jr. Still Interested in Moving JR Motorsports to Cup; Zero Movement Right Now
Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his sister Kelley Earnhardt-Miller still very much want to take their NASCAR Xfinity Series team, JR Motorsports, to the NASCAR Cup Series level, but Earnhardt says it would be selfish of him to make the financial move to buy the Charter fully himself.
As a result, JR Motorsports has currently reached an impasse.
“There is zero movement on our end,” Earnhardt explained in a Wednesday interview on SiriusXM. “You know me and my sister Kelley, L.W., and everybody at JR Motorsports are always looking forward to an opportunity to get into the Cup Series. We’re interested in that, but it has to make sense.”
Earnhardt says he is open to partnerships to make the move happen, but that he is not willing to compromise control of the team and he for sure wants to run it out of his JR Motorsports shop. In order for him to agree to a partnership, it has to, “check all of those boxes,” and Earnhardt says no offer he’s had so far has done that.
