TC Daily Pit Stop: Friday, July 14th, 2023
On Thursday, Racing America and TobyChristie.com announced the formation of a strategic partnership, which will see both news outlets broaden and deepen their coverage by sharing assets, resources, personnel, and services.
The goal is to fuel growth across both digital platforms.
As part of the partnership, Toby Christie — TobyChristie.com Founder and Editor-in-Chief — will serve as the Editor-in-Chief of Racing America in addition to his duties at TobyChristie.com.
What does this mean for you, the loyal TobyChristie.com reader? Overall, better coverage from us, and you’ll be able to digest it the same way you have in the past. Mother Nature just isn’t a racing fan, lately. The much anticipated 2023 Camping World SRX Racing season-opener on ESPN’s Thursday Night Thunder ended in a weather-shortened finish.
Denny Hamlin, who was making his series debut, dominated the event and was leading in the No. 11 FedEx Express machine when the weather ended the race on lap 58 of the 75-lap scheduled distance.
After the race, Hamlin tweeted, “1 for 1. Think I’ll retire. Thanks SRXracing & StaffordSpeedwy”
Ryan Newman would be the highest-finishing full-time SRX driver as he came home in the runner-up spot, 0.761 sec. behind Hamlin.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his sister Kelley Earnhardt-Miller still very much want to take their NASCAR Xfinity Series team, JR Motorsports, to the NASCAR Cup Series level, but Earnhardt says it would be selfish of him to make the financial move to buy the Charter fully himself.
As a result, JR Motorsports has currently reached an impasse.
“There is zero movement on our end,” Earnhardt explained in a Wednesday interview on SiriusXM. “You know me and my sister Kelley, L.W., and everybody at JR Motorsports are always looking forward to an opportunity to get into the Cup Series. We’re interested in that, but it has to make sense.”
Earnhardt says he is open to partnerships to make the move happen, but that he is not willing to compromise control of the team and he for sure wants to run it out of his JR Motorsports shop. In order for him to agree to a partnership, it has to, “check all of those boxes,” and Earnhardt says no offer he’s had so far has done that.
Kyle Larson was looking to pocket $ 1 million on Thursday night at Eldora Speedway. However, while running inside the top five of the prestigious Eldora Million, Larson was involved in a multi-car crash, which sent him tumbling.
As Larson came to a stop, he was slammed into one more time by Lachlan McHugh at nearly full speed. It was a scary sight, but Larson and everyone involved were able to walk away.
In next weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Pocono Raceway, Ryan Ellis will have a special partner on his No. 43 Rich Mar Florist Chevrolet Camaro. The Alpha Prime Racing driver will also carry The Laughlin Family Foundation, which raises money to help those affected by rare cancer.
The foundation is on the car due to Rich Mar Florist donating the rear quarter panels of its sponsorship to the foundation. What a heart-warming gesture. This will mark the third-consecutive season that Ellis has carried the Foundation on track.
Time to get the NASCAR race weekend started at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Friday, July 14th. As long as Mother Nature works with us, the NASCAR Xfinity Series drivers and cars will take to The Magic Mile for practice and qualifying.
