TC Daily Pit Stop: The 2024 Spotter Shuffle Continues; Jeff Hensley Joins TRICON Garage; Doug Duchardt Named President of Spire Motorsports
TC Daily Pit Stop: Tuesday, December 5th, 2023
Tim Fedewa, who served as spotter for Kevin Harvick during his time at Stewart-Haas Racing, will move over to Team Penske to spot for 2023 NASCAR Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney, the team confirmed to Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports.
Earlier in the afternoon on Monday, Josh Williams, who spent nine seasons spotting for Team Penske in the NASCAR Cup Series, announced that he wouldn’t be returning to the organization in 2024, after winning the championship earlier this month at Phoenix.
Confirmation of Fedewa’s move to Team Penske for 2024 is the latest in a series of domino-like movements in the spotter market for the upcoming season, which has already seen three spotters move from major organizations (Eddie D’Hondt/Hendrick, Josh Williams/Penske, Tim Fedewa/Stewart-Haas).
Doug Duchardt, a long-time NASCAR industry executive, has been named the President of Spire Motorsports, the organization officially announced on Monday. Duchardt’s new role with the organization will begin immediately.
Having nearly three decades of experience ranging from General Motors to leading some of the most iconic race teams, Duchardt is one of the sport’s most accomplished individuals and brings a championship pedigree to the team’s rapidly growing operations.
Having worked with teams like Hendrick Motorsports and Chip Ganassi, as well as a tenure with General Motors, relationships like the ones the Duchardt has built throughout his nearly three decade career will be crucial in Spire Motorsports taking the next step.
Jeff Hensley, a veteran NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series crew chief, will join TRICON Garage in 2024 as crew chief for Taylor Gray in the No. 17 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, the team announced on Monday.
Hensley is a 33-time winner as a crew chief in NASCAR’s National Series, picking up 11 NASCAR Xfinity Series victories and 22 in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the series he’s directed his attention to since 2001.
The presence of Hensley on the No. 17 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro team will provide Taylor Gray, 18, with the opportunity to have an experienced voice in his ear, as he looks to qualify for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Playoffs for the first time.
