TC Daily Pit Stop: Shane van Gisbergen Continues to Dominate on the Road, Takes Historic Sonoma Win
TC Daily Pit Stop: Monday, July 14th, 2025
Shane Van Gisbergen Unstoppable in Dominant Sonoma Win
It’s obvious that this is Shane van Gisbergen’s world, and we’re all just living in it. The driver of the No. 88 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet took a dominant victory in Sunday’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway, and made a bit of history in the process.
SVG, who started on the pole, won Stage 2, and led a race-high 97 laps, actually broke the NASCAR Cup Series record for most laps led in a race at Sonoma Raceway, which was previously held by Jeff Gordon, who led 92 laps in the 2004 Sonoma Raceway event.
The driver never had a legit threat to his win on Sunday, and the closest thing he had to a challenge was three late-race cautions, which forced him to execute three restarts late in the event to win the race.
“Yeah, it was pretty tough stuff.” Van Gisbergen said of the late-race restarts. “We had an amazing car. Chase Briscoe, what a great racer, and [he] gave me respect. Jumped the last one a little bit, and it was pretty tense, but amazing. So stoked for Red Bull, Trackhouse, Chevy. I believe we had a really fun weekend here, some great races, and I hope everyone enjoyed that.”
Chase Briscoe, who admits Sonoma is his worst track, finished second ahead of Chase Elliott, Michael McDowell, and Christopher Bell.

Video: Ryan Blaney Goes Spinning Into Turn 1 Dirt After Contact with Buescher
Ryan Blaney’s tough luck in 2025 continued on Sunday as he suffered an excursion into the dirt hill in Turn 1 after contact from Chris Buescher on Lap 62. This would put Blaney a lap down. Later in the race Blaney would be KOed by a spinning Kyle Larson.
