TC Daily Pit Stop: Sunday, July 30th, 2023
Well, it wasn’t easy, and it wasn’t certain until a wild overtime finish, but Sam Mayer emerged victorious Saturday afternoon at Road America in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Road America 180. The driver of the No. 1 JR Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro finally got that long-awaited first NXS win.
The only thing that went wrong for Mayer, was that he destroyed his car while celebrating the win, as he took a trip through the sand pit, which ripped apart his front end. While Mayer got a much-deserved win, Sage Karam nearly pulled off the upset for Sam Hunt Racing.
Karam had the lead briefly during the final two-lap shootout, but ultimately ended up fourth. Parker Kligerman would finish the race runner-up to Mayer.

Carson Hocevar and his crew chief Phil Gould played a perfect strategy, which put them on fresher tires at the end of the race than Ty Majeski and the other front runners. With the new tires on his truck, he chased down and passed Majeski and cruised to the win.
This is Hocevar’s third win of the 2023 NASCAR Truck Series season. Majeski would hold on to finish second.
Tyler Reddick slapped the wall in the opening round of NASCAR Cup Series qualifying on Saturday, but it didn’t hamper his car any. Reddick would snatch the pole for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway over Kyle Busch.
Denny Hamlin, Chase Elliott, and Bubba Wallace are the other top-five starters.
Sure, it was a bummer that the SRX Series officials had to suspend Paul Tracy, but it has led to an awesome story. Former NASCAR Xfinity and NASCAR Truck Series champion Johnny Benson Jr. will suit up for this Thursday’s race at his home track — Berlin Raceway.
Benson was added to the lineup following Tracy’s suspension.
