Sam Mayer Scores First Xfinity Win After Overtime Chaos at Road America
Well, it wasn’t easy, and it wasn’t certain until a wild overtime finish, but Sam Mayer emerged victorious Saturday afternoon at Road America in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Road America 180. The driver of the No. 1 JR Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro finally got that long-awaited first NXS win.
The only thing that went wrong for Mayer, was that he destroyed his car while celebrating the win, as he took a trip through the sand pit, which ripped apart his front end. While Mayer got a much-deserved win, Sage Karam nearly pulled off the upset for Sam Hunt Racing.
Karam had the lead briefly during the final two-lap shootout, but ultimately ended up fourth. Parker Kligerman would finish the race runner-up to Mayer.
