Denny Hamlin will not be competing in Sunday’s Viva Mexico 250 at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. The 44-year-old driver has elected to stay with his family following the birth of his first son on Wednesday.

Ryan Truex, the official reserve driver for Joe Gibbs Racing, will serve as the interim driver for Hamlin, piloting the No. 11 Yahoo! Toyota Camry XSE.

“We are happy to announce the birth of our son. Everyone is doing well. My main priority is to be here at home for Jordan and our family over the next few days when she is able to go home and we transition to life as a family of five.”

Alex Bowman Running Mexico City Race; Anthony Alfredo Will Be on Standby

After a vicious crash in last weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Michigan International Speedway, Alex Bowman has been cleared to compete in the inaugural. event at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

The 32-year-old driver was evaluated during the week for back pain that persisted, and was cleared to drive. As a precaution, Anthony Alfredo, the team’s primary simulator driver, will be present and able to jump in, should Bowman need relief.
