One of NASCAR’s Most Polarizing Venues Could be Axed in 2026
According to a Monday report from The Athletic, NASCAR is moving away from the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL layout, which has been used since the 2018 season, in 2026. Instead, Charlotte Motor Speedway will use its traditional 1.5-mile oval layout in both of its NASCAR race weekends in 2026.
The change, if true, will mean the end of one of the most polarizing track layouts in the sport. People either loved the Charlotte ROVAL or they loathed it. There was no in between.
However, while this will be seen as a positive change by a large portion of the traditional NASCAR fan base, who weren’t fans of the ROVAL, the removal of a road course layout, and the only road course represented inside NASCAR’s Chase for the Cup, signals bad news for teams, such as Trackhouse, that have heavily invested in drivers with road course talent over the last few seasons.
