TC Daily Pit Stop: Parker Kligerman Earns Connor Zilisch's Seventh Win of 2025; Byron Slapped with Pre-Race Penalty
TC Daily Pit Stop: Saturday, August 23rd, 2025
Parker Kligerman Jumps in No. 88; Wins Daytona for Zilisch, JR Motorsports
The record books will officially show Connor Zilisch as the winner of Friday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Daytona International Speedway, in what is his seventh victory of 2025 in the second-tier series.
However, what happened on the high banks of “The World Center of Racing” on the evening of Friday, August 22, is a much better story, and one that will go down in infamy as one of the most heartwarming stories in NASCAR.
Parker Kligerman, driving Connor Zilisch’s car, brought JR Motorsports to Victory Lane in Friday’s Wawa 250 Powered by Coca-Cola.
“For me, it’s such a me thing that this will not be on Racing-Reference, at all. I’m still going to count it as a win, I’m just going to take the checkered flag, we get the check of course, but this is just really cool, and to do it with a guy that younger me thought in the world I would get to speak to him, let alone drive one of his race cars, is just a dream come true.”

William Byron, Hendrick No. 24 Slapped with Pre-Race Penalty
If William Byron is looking to secure his fourth victory in the NASCAR Cup Series at Daytona International Speedway, he’s going to have a significant amount of work to do in Saturday’s Coke Zero Sugar 400.
Byron, who clinched the regular-season title last weekend at Richmond, will be starting from the rear of the field, as part of a penalty assessed to the Hendrick Motorsports team by NASCAR on Friday.
According to an inspection report released on Friday evening, the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports team was observed making an unapproved adjustment on the front splitter. When NASCAR required the team to go back through inspection, the car failed due to the adjustment.
Rudy Fugle has been ejected; the team will lose pit selection, start at the rear of the field, and have to serve a pass-through penalty under green.
