No Penalty for Corey LaJoie After Contact with Kyle Busch at Pocono
Elton Sawyer confirmed on Tuesday during a NASCAR Media Availability at NASCAR Productions that the sanctioning body will not issue penalties toward Corey LaJoie for his incident with Kyle Busch on Lap 121 of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series The Great American Getaway 400, which sparked a seven-car crash.
Sawyer cited the fact that LaJoie never said anything on his team radio that suggested he turned Busch on purpose as the reasoning for no penalty.
“This past weekend, we’re in-race, we’re in competition. You got two guys racing hard. You listen to the in-car audio on the No. 7 [LaJoie] and you don’t hear anything from the driver,” Sawyer said on Tuesday. “There are some comments by the crew chief and spotter, but neither one of them is driving the car. I’ve had those guys in my ear before, and they’re not driving.”
NASCAR will speak with LaJoie ahead of this weekend’s Brickyard 400.

NASCAR Bringing All-Star Option Tire to Richmond Raceway
NASCAR officially announced on Tuesday, what had been widely speculated, NASCAR Cup Series teams will have multiple tire compounds to choose from in the upcoming event at Richmond Raceway on August 11. This continues the “Option” tire experiment from the NASCAR All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway earlier this season.
Like at Wilkesboro, the standard “Prime” tire will have the yellow lettering, and the “Option” tire will feature red lettering. The Goodyear option tire is made from the same compound as wet-weather tires used at ovals like New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Teams will be allotted three sets of the option tires, one for practice, and two sets for the 400-lap race on Sunday. Unlike the All-Star Race, it will be at the team’s discretion as to when to utilize the Option tires or the Prime tires.

Daniel Suarez Running NASCAR Brasil Series Race at Interlagos During Olympic Break
Daniel Suarez has enjoyed a successful 2024 NASCAR season as he scored win in the NASCAR Mexico Series event at the LA Memorial Coliseum in February, and then followed that up with his second career NASCAR Cup Series win at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
On Tuesday, Suarez announced that he will compete in the NASCAR Brasil Series event at Autódromo José Carlos Pace (Interlagos) on August 3-4. Suarez was already scheduled to be in Brazil during NASCAR’s two-week Olympics break as he is getting married to his fiancé Julia.
“We’re going to be getting married in Brazil in a couple of weeks and when I found out that they were having a NASCAR Brasil Race in Interlagos, a racetrack that is so historic, so much history in that racetrack, it was a no-brainer for me,” said Suarez. “So, I started having conversations with NASCAR and NASCAR Brasil and I got an opportunity.”
