NASCAR ‘Unequivocally’ Committed to Mexico City Race Weekend
Over the last few weeks, a rumor has persisted within the NASCAR garage that the upcoming June race weekend at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City would be axed in favor of a trip to the Daytona International Speedway Road Course. The rumor kicked into another gear when an anonymous NASCAR Rumor channel on Instagram posted it on Thursday.
On Friday, a source within NASCAR squashed the rumors as they disclosed to Racing America On SI that NASCAR remains “unequivocally” committed to the Mexico City race, and that the sanctioning body is full-speed ahead for the upcoming race.
The source highlighted the efforts by NASCAR to promote the race including last week’s media blitz, which saw Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, Bubba Wallace, and Daniel Suarez participate in a track walk, taco tasting, and a Lucha Libre wrestling event in Mexico City as further proof that the rumors are unfounded.

Katherine Legge Ready to Tackle NASCAR Cup Series Debut at Phoenix
Katherine Legge, who has competed in motorsports for more than two decades, will get a chance to do something this weekend that she has yet to do in her illustrious career — start a NASCAR Cup Series race.
As she makes her debut for Live Fast Motorsports in the No. 78 Chevrolet this weekend at Phoenix Raceway, she’ll also mark the first female racer to check off running a NASCAR Cup Series event since Danica Patrick started the 2018 Daytona 500. Legge says she’s disappointed in the gap of women racers in the top levels of motorsport in recent years.
“It’s disappointing that there aren’t more women in INDYCAR, NASCAR Cup, and Sportscars, there’s really been kind of a gap,” Legge said on Friday. “There was Sarah Fisher and Danica [Patrick] and me, and Simona [de Silvestro] and a bunch of good driers in that era. Then there’s been this gap, this lull.”
