Goodyear Introduces New Left-Side Tire With ‘More Fall-Off’ for Martinsville
Goodyear is introducing a brand-new left-side tire compound for Sunday’s Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway, marking its race debut in one of the most pivotal events of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs. Designed to create greater tire fall-off and increased grip over long runs, the new tire aims to enhance the racing product at short tracks, a key area of focus for NASCAR and Goodyear alike. The tire was first tested at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in July, and will be paired with a familiar right-side compound that has seen action at Bowman Gray, North Wilkesboro, Richmond, and other short tracks throughout the season.
The stakes couldn’t be higher for the debut. Six Playoff drivers are set to battle for the final two Championship 4 spots at Martinsville, including past race winners Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, and Joey Logano, all of whom face must-win scenarios. Interestingly, Logano took part in the Goodyear test where this new tire was developed, potentially giving him a slight edge. With the new compound expected to shake up tire strategy and handling throughout the 500-lap race, Sunday’s showdown promises to blend innovation and intensity as NASCAR’s best fight for their shot at the title.
