NASCAR Open to Ideas on Potential Short Track Package Improvements
After another lackluster Short Track race in the NASCAR Cup Series in Sunday’s Food City 500, Elton Sawyer, the Senior Vice President of Competition for NASCAR, says the sanctioning body is open to ideas on how to improve the short track package at short tracks in the NASCAR Cup Series.
In an interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Sawyer explained NASCAR is “not going to sleep on [the issue]” and will continue working to improve the on-track product at short tracks.
“What I would say is what we talk about every week: If you look at our product that we put on the racetrack every week, we’re constantly looking at that and what we can do to improve.”
Sawyer stressed he doesn’t want fans to lose sight of the fact that intermediate and superspeedway racing has been great in the Next Gen car despite frustrations over the short track product.
