Myatt Snider Thrust Into Cup Car After Unexpected Situation With Alex Bowman At COTA
As Alex Bowman began suffering from what was obviously, based on his radio communication with his team, a tremendously uncomfortable situation inside of the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in Sunday’s race at COTA, the driver concluded that he needed to get out of the car, and head to the infield care center.
As Bowman was coming to that conclusion, his team was looking to find a relief driver to finish out the race in the No. 48. Incredibly, in what will likely be an interesting answer to a trivia question years from now, part-time NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series competitor Myatt Snider, who was serving as a shadow pit reporter for NASCAR On FOX, got the call.
Instantly, Snider began his trip from pit road to the garage area, and along the way, frantically texted fellow part-time NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series driver Brad Perez for advice on how to navigate the 20-turn road course.
Snider would suit up, climb in the car, and would close out the race by turning lap times that were eventually in range of the other competitors. Until a fuel or mechanical issue with two laps to go hampered the No. 48 Chevrolet, it was honestly a successful first time in a Next Gen car for Snider.
