Michael McDowell Scores Gateway Pole with Track Record Lap
Michael McDowell, who entered the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season with zero career poles, sits tied with Kyle Larson for the most poles this season after scoring his third pole of 2024 Saturday at World Wide Technlogy Raceway at Gateway.
McDowell broke the track qualifying record in the opening round of qualifying, and backed that up with the pole-winning run in Round 2 of the session.
Austin Cindric will start alongside McDowell on the outside of the front row. Ryan Blaney, Chistopher Bell, Tyler Reddick, Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski, Bubba Wallace, Ty Gibbs, and Kyle Busch rounded out the top-10 starters for Sunday’s race.

Kyle Larson Unsure on Playoff Waiver After Missing Coca-Cola 600; Competitors Feel He’s Deserving of Waiver
With his Playoff eligibility status still up in the air after missing last Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in favor of running his first Indianapolis 500, Kyle Larson addressed the Playoff Waiver situation on Saturday in a chat with the media. Larson says he’s unsure of whether he’ll receive a waiver or not, and that ultimately, it’s not his call, it’s NASCAR’s.
While Larson seemed unsure, the majority of his competitors feel that Larson should get a waiver, and they feel like he will get one.
“It’s Kyle Larson. Guy is doing more for motorsports than anybody else,” Kyle Busch stated when asked if Larson deserved a waiver.

Corey Heim Wins Rain-Delayed Toyota 200 at Gateway
After a weather delay, which lasted several hours, Corey Heim took his fourth NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory of the 2024 season, and the ninth win of his career in Saturday’s Toyota 200 at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.
With the win, Heim remains undefeated at Gateway as he won the 2022 NASCAR Truck Series event at the track with Kyle Busch Motorsports, and missed the 2023 event due to illness.
By winning on Saturday, Heim collected the $50,000 Triple Truck Challenge bonus award. Christian Eckes, the series points leader, finished second, and added one point to his regular season lead.

Shane Van Gisbergen Makes Late Pass at Portland for First Xfinity Win
Shane van Gisbergen, the Supercars legend who also scored a NASCAR Cup Series win a season ago, has now added NASCAR Xfinity Series winner to his lengthy resume.
While SVG appeared to have the car to beat early in the event, an odd strategy to pit before the end of the opening Stage of the race, actually hampered his day, and after suffering damage in Stage 2, the driver of the No. 97 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet was just trying to get back in contention the majority of the race.
He finally got there, and he made the move for the lead, and win, on the final restart of the race as he got around Justin Allgaier for the lead with four laps to go.
