Sam Mayer, No. 1 JR Motorsports Team Hit With L1-Level Penalty Post-Darlington
NASCAR issued an L1-Level penalty to Sam Mayer’s No. 1 JR Motorsports team for a chassis re-certification issue at Darlington Raceway. Mayer has been docked 10 championship driver points, the No. 1 team has been docked 10 championship owner points and crew chief Mardy Lindley has been fined $10,000 and suspended one race.
Also on the penalty report on Tuesday were the suspensions of two NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series pit crew members, who had issues with their safety gear at Darlington.
Jerick Newsome, who also serves as the rear changer for Zane Smith’s No. 71 Spire Motorsports Cup team, and Marcus Horton, the tire carrier for the No. 88 ThorSport Racing team, will not be permitted to compete this weekend at North Wilkesboro.

Cam Waters to Make NASCAR Cup Debut in RFK Racing #Stage60 Entry
Cam Waters, an 11-time winner in the Repco Supercars Series in Australia, will make his NASCAR Cup Series debut in the No. 60 RFK Racing #Stage60 entry at Sonoma Raceway in June. Buildsubmarines.com and AUKUS (a trilateral security partnership between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States) will serve as the primary sponsor for the effort.
Waters has made two starts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in anticipation of this first start in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Chase Elliott, NAPA Auto Parts to Honor TEC5 Clifford Strickland at Charlotte
Chase Elliott, and the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports team will honor TEC5 Clifford Strickland, who was captured and died as a prisoner of war during World War II with a patriotic paint scheme in the Coca-Cola 600.
The No. 9 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet will be adorned with black digital camo, and Strickland’s name will be on the windshield banner of the vehicle as part of the 600 miles of remembrance program.

Jimmie Johnson to Join NBC Sports Coverage of Indianapolis 500; Select Cup Races
Jimmie Johnson will join NBC Sports this season in select motorsport events including the Indianapolis 500. Johnson will compete in the Coca-Cola 600 later that same day.
Johnson will also serve as an analyst in the NASCAR Cup Series events at Daytona, and Talladega. Johnson will also be part of the NBC Sports broadcast in the NASCAR Cup Series events that he competes in including Phoenix Raceway.
