Joey Logano Makes Obscene Fuel Save; Wins in Quintuple Overtime at Nashville
What in the world was that?!?! Joey Logano captured his first win of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season in possibly the strangest end of a race we’ve ever seen. As fuel tanks were running dry while the race went into five overtime restart attempts, Logano was somehow able to stretch his gas tank to 110 laps, and in the process had enough pace to narrowly hold off Zane Smith and Tyler Reddick in a dash to the finish line off of Turn 4.
“A lot of teamwork there,” said Logano about hitting the obscene fuel number. “You have to give a lot of credit to our fueler, Nick Hensley, our engine department with Roush Yates building obviously some engines that could also manage fuel really well, and some guts — a lot of cajones made it happen.”
Officially, Logano won by 0.068 seconds over Smith, and 0.071 seconds over Reddick.
