Kyle Larson Puts The ‘Super’ in ‘Super Sub’ with Texas Victory
After Connor Zilisch was ruled out for this weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Texas due to a lower back injury sustained at Talladega, Kyle Larson got the call to get behind the wheel of the No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet.
While he wasn’t the race’s dominant driver — that honor belonged to defending series champion Justin Allgaier — Larson knifed his way from the 20th starting position, and when Allgaier was wiped out by Kris Wright’s sluggish No. 5 Chevrolet, Larson took the point.
Larson led twice for 32 laps down the stretch, but late-race cautions would put his win in doubt. However, Larson, who restarted seventh on fresh tires was able to climb his way through the field, and in the second Overtime attempt, he took the lead from Sam Mayer, and never looked back.
Taylor Gray came home a career-best runner-up, and he was followed by Riley Herbst, Austin Hill, and Sam Mayer in the top-five.
