TC Daily Pit Stop: Josh Berry Crushes Field For Xfinity Pole; NASCAR Confiscates Custer's Splitter; Ryan Ellis Full-Time in 2024; Saturday's TV Schedule
TC Daily Pit Stop: Saturday, August 5th, 2023
Josh Berry took the pole position for Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Cabo Wabo 250 at Michigan International Speedway by a quarter of a second over his JR Motorsports teammate Justin Allgaier. It was a heck of a lap, and it certainly has set the tone for the weekend for the future Stewart-Haas Racing driver.
Austin Hill will start from the third position, Sam Mayer — last week’s winner — will roll from fourth, and Riley Herbst will start from fifth.
No team failed multiple times during NASCAR Xfinity Series pre-race inspection for Saturday’s Cabo Wabo 250, but there was a bit of drama for Cole Custer’s No. 00 Stewart-Haas Racing team.
NASCAR didn’t like something with the No. 00 team’s splitter and opted to confiscate the part from the car. NASCAR will inspect the splitter further at the R&D Center next week, and any penalties for the issue will be announced next week following the in-depth inspection of the splitter.
After years, and years, and years of persistence, Ryan Ellis will finally be a full-time driver in a NASCAR National Series in 2024. On Friday, Ellis and Alpha Prime Racing announced that the third-generation racer will return to the team on a full-time basis next season.
“The dream of competing full-time in NASCAR has been a dream of mine my entire life, and for most of my life it seemed unattainable,” Ellis said. “Even when I was working full-time in office jobs and scraping together money to run a few races a year, I always had the support of my family and friends – my parents, my sister, my entire extended family, and obviously my beautiful wife Allison and my daughter Hayden.”

On Tuesday, RFK Racing held a company-wide celebratory breakfast following Chris Buescher’s win at Richmond. The mood was jovial, and excited, and there was a general buzz that this is a team that has righted the ship. It’s been a big swing for the team over the last three years, and it’s been a total team effort after a lot of major behind-the-scenes decisions were made.
