TC Daily Pit Stop: Josh Berry Breaks Through for First NASCAR Cup Series Win; Win No. 101 for Wood Brothers Racing

Just five races into his tenure with the legendary Wood Brothers Racing team, 34-year-old Josh Berry has officially etched his name into the history books as a NASCAR Cup Series race winner.

Berry, who led the final 16 laps of Sunday’s Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway after besting Daniel Suarez in a hard-fought multi-lap duel for the win, led a total of 18 laps on the day and was near the front of the field all race long.

The win marks the 101st all-time for the Wood Brothers Racing team, and Berry’s win coupled with Harrison Burton’s win for the team last Summer at Daytona International Speedway means the team has won in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1986 and 1987.

Power Rankings: Berry Good Day for Some in Las Vegas Shakes Things Up

Las Vegas Motor Speedway, much like the casinos in Sin City, was kind to some and not kind to others. At the end of an up, and down day in the Pennzoil 400, some drivers saw their fortunes rise in the weekly Racing America On SI NASCAR Power Rankings, while several others are looking for a lifeline to stop the bleeding.

Josh Berry, the surprising race winner, was tied for the biggest mover in the rankings this week (up 10 spots), while Kyle Busch saw his stock drop (down eight spots).
