Sources: JD Motorsports Lays Off Employees; Filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in April
The JD Motorsports team, which has fielded the No. 4 and No. 6 Chevrolet Camaros in the NASCAR Xfinity Series through the opening 19 races of the 2024 season, has laid off the majority of its employees following last weekend’s race at Pocono Raceway according to sources with knowledge of the situation, who spoke under the condition of anonymity to TobyChristie.com on Monday morning.
According to the sources, JD Motorsports team owner Johnny Davis officially laid off staff members on Monday as they entered the shop. One source has said that Davis claims that he intends to field a car for this weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but the source is unsure how after the moves that were made on Monday morning.
TobyChristie.com has attempted to contact team owner Johnny Davis for comment by way of phone, but the call went to voicemail. If a response is obtained, it will be included in the story post-publishing.
According to public records obtained by TobyChristie.com, JD Motorsports filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on April 8 and is being represented by the Penn Law Firm.

Alpha Prime Racing Acquires JD Motorsports No. 4 Owner Points
Alpha Prime Racing will have a much easier time ensuring that it’s No. 45 entry makes the field for Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Pennzoil 250 at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway as the organization has acquired the owner points from the No. 4 JD Motorsports team. NASCAR confirmed the owner points transfer to TobyChristie.com on Monday afternoon.
The owner points transfer gives the No. 45 Alpha Prime Racing entry the 36th-place points in the NASCAR Xfinity Series owner standings. This puts the part-time Alpha Prime car behind the No. 07 SS-GreenLight Racing team, and ahead of, among others, the No. 32 Jordan Anderson Racing team, No. 6 JD Motorsports team, No. 35 Joey Gase Motorsports team, No. 10 Kaulig Racing team.
The No. 45 Alpha Prime Racing team will attempt to make this weekend’s race, and on Monday afternoon, the organization announced Garrett Smithley, who has competed in 15 NASCAR Xfinity Series races for JD Motorsports this season, will be the driver of the entry.

BJ Mcleod Running Double-Duty for MBM Motorsports at Indianapolis
BJ McLeod and MBM Motorsports will double-dip this weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, partnering up to compete in both Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Pennzoil 250 and Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Brickyard 400.
The organization confirmed the double-duty attempt on Monday, with the announcement that McLeod will pilot the No. 66 Ford Mustang Dark Horse in Sunday’s 400-mile contest at the historic facility in Indianapolis, Indiana.
With only 39 drivers entered for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series event and 38 entered in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event, McLeod and the team will qualify for both event, barring the addition of a late entry.

Garrett Smithley, who has made 15 starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this season for JD Motorsports, will attempt his first start of the year in the No. 45 Chevrolet Camaro for Alpha Prime Racing. The driver and team announced their partnership for this weekend’s Pennzoil 250 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway via a social media post on Monday afternoon.

Hattori Racing Enterprises Returning to Truck Series at IRP with Johnny Sauter
Hattori Racing Enterprises (HRE) will return to the racetrack for the second time this season, fielding an entry in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
The championship-winning organization, which fielded a full-time entry in the NASCAR Truck Series from 2017 to 2023, will bring its No. 16 AISIN Toyota Tundra TRD Pro to the 0.686-mile short track for the July 19 event.
Nearly a decade after working together in the Xfinity Series, Hattori Racing Enterprises and 2016 NASCAR Truck Series champion Johnny Sauter will see their paths cross once again, as the 46-year-old gets behind the wheel of the organization’s truck.

Hailie Deegan to Compete in SpeedTour All-Star Race at Lime Rock Park
Fresh off of her mid-season split with NASCAR Xfinity Series team AM Racing, Hailie Deegan is broadening her horizons, starting this weekend at Lime Rock Park.
A native of Temecula, California, Deegan will be partnering with NASCAR legend Ken Schrader to compete in the SpeedTour All-Star Race event, piloting a Team SLR-M1 Racecars entry.
Deegan is a three-time champion in the Lucas Oil Off Road Pro Series, the only female driver to accomplish this feat, and to this day, remains the only youth driver to win the Lucas Oil Off Road Pro Series Driver of the Year award, an honor she collected at the age of 15.
