TC Daily Pit Stop: Hamlin Has Enough Fuel at Michigan, Takes 3rd Win of Season; Bowman Walks Away From Terrifying Head-On Crash

Denny Hamlin Has Enough Fuel in Tank to Pick Up Michigan Win, 3rd Win of Year
While many sweated it out, and several drivers like William Byron couldn’t make it to the finish on fuel in Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway, Denny Hamlin had no such problem as he made the race-winning pass on Byron with four laps remaining in Sunday’s race.
As Byron ran out of fuel coming to the white flag, Hamlin held off Chris Buescher by 1.099 seconds on the final lap to pick up his third victory of the 2025 season, and the 57th win of his NASCAR Cup Series career.
Hamlin, who had suffered from a lack of fuel in his No. 11 Toyota over the last couple of races, was happy to be on the other end of the fuel situation this weekend.
“It’s fantastic. Chris Gayle, this whole team has done a great job. We’ve been so fast throughout the entire year. Just haven’t finished it for one reason or another,” Hamlin explained. “Feels good to come here to Michigan, where we’ve been so close over the years. To get a victory for Toyota, Yahoo, Sport Clips, Shady Rays, the Jordan brand, and everyone. This is such a gratifying day to restart 11th or 12th, something like that, and drive to the front.”
Ty Gibbs, Bubba Wallace, and Kyle Larson finished third through fifth.

Alex Bowman Walks Away From Massive Head-On Impact at Michigan
Alex Bowman saw his day end in a horrific head-on impact into the Turn 2 wall on Lap 67 of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Thankfully, the driver of the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet was able to walk away from the severe impact.
After a trip to the infield care center, Bowman would call the crash the hardest of his NASCAR career.
"Yeah, I mean, I feel okay. It was the biggest hit I've ever taken in a stock car by a mile," Bowman said. "But, head-on into the wall at Michigan, it's going to be that way."
The crash resulted in a 36th-place finish for Bowman. Over the last nine races, Bowman now has seven finishes of 27th or worse.
