Denny Hamlin Would Skip Mexico City If Still On ‘Baby Watch’
Denny Hamlin and his fiancée Jordan Fish remain on baby watch as they are awaiting the arrival of their third child. In an interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on Tuesday, Hamlin explained that if the baby has yet to be born by the time he is set to depart for Mexico City on Thursday, he will remain in North Carolina and forgo this weekend’s race at Mexico City.
If Hamlin does skip the event, Ryan Truex will serve as the driver of the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry XSE. Truex has remained at the ready in each of the last two NASCAR Cup Series race weekends in case Hamlin had to head home for the anticipated birth of his first son.
Hamlin, should he miss Sunday’s Viva Mexico 250, will be granted a post-season waiver by NASCAR, as “childbirth” is one of the no-consequences reasons permitted by NASCAR.
