TC Daily Pit Stop: Chase Briscoe, No. 14 SHR Team Hit With L3 Penalty for Counterfeit Part; Kevin Harvick First Win Car to Pace Atlanta Field; Phoenix Raceway Returns as 2024 Championship Site
TC Daily Pit Stop: Thursday, June 1st, 2023
On Wednesday, NASCAR dropped the hammer on Chase Briscoe and the No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing team after the No. 14 car was found to have a counterfeit engine panel NACA duct. For those keeping score at home, fashioning your own version of a single source supplier part of the Next Gen car is a big no-no. As such, NASCAR dropped the biggest penalty of the year, so far, on the No. 14 team.
NASCAR levied an L3 penalty, which comes equipped with a 120 owner and driver point deduction, 25 Playoff Points deduction, as well as a $250,000 fine and six-race suspension for crew chief Johnny Klausmeier.
The penalty, which will not be appealed, drops Briscoe from 17th in the NASCAR Cup Series championship standings to 31st.
Kevin Harvick’s first-career NASCAR Cup Series win came in emotional fashion, three races after the death of Dale Earnhardt, at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2001. In July, Harvick will make his final start at AMS, and that first win car will be there for all to see! The No. 29 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet will pace the field.
Richard Childress will take the car out of the RCR Museum for the event. Childress says he felt it was only right to pay tribute to a driver that meant so much to RCR and has put in a Hall-of-Fame-worthy career.
Atlanta Motor Speedway has also created a special $65 Kevin Harvick Ticket Package for the Quaker State 400 race weekend.
2024 will officially mark the fifth-consecutive season that Phoenix Raceway plays host to NASCAR’s Championship Weekend, as NASCAR and the race track announced the return of Phoenix as the Championship site for the 2024 season.
The NASCAR Cup, Xfinity, Trucks and ARCA West Champions will once again be crowned at the 1-mile oval in Avondale, Arizona.
Gray Gaulding will make his first NASCAR Cup Series start since the 2020 season as he will slide behind the wheel of the No. 15 Rick Ware Racing Ford Mustang this weekend at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.
Gaulding’s longtime partner Panini will serve as the sponsor for the effort, and they will feature #PaniniNFT on the hood.
AJ Allmendinger, one of the most prolific road course racers in NASCAR National Series history, will pull double duty for Kaulig Racing as the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to Sonoma Raceway next weekend.
Gabriel Glas, a creator of a true-universal wine glass that is flattering to all types of wine, will serve as the primary sponsor for both series for Allmendinger.
