William Byron Reclaims Lead in NASCAR Overtime; Completes Dominant Performance at Las Vegas

William Byron put on a clinic in Sunday’s Pennzoil 400, as he led a race-high 176 laps in the 271-lap race, but in the closing laps, it looked like he would be relegated to a runner-up finish to teammate Kyle Larson. Then, Aric Almirola crashed in turn 4 with three laps to go, which changed everything.

After Byron’s No. 24 team beat Larson’s No. 5 team, Byron was able to scoot around Martin Truex Jr., who gambled by not pitting, to score the victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Larson would finish second, and Alex Bowman would make it an all-Hendrick Motorsports top-three.

Video: Joey Logano Gets Into Wall, Spins and Catches Major Air in Las Vegas

Joey Logano saw his bid for a win, or even a decent finish in Sunday’s Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway deteriorate in the final stage of the event, when he caught the wall in a three-wide battle with Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski on lap 184.

The wall slap sent Logano spinning through the infield grass, which catapulted Logano’s No. 22 car high into the air. Logano’s car suffered a broken toe-link, which resulted in his retirement from the race.

LaJoie is already a full-time NASCAR Cup competitor, his team — Spire Motorsports — works closely with Hendrick Motorsports, and LaJoie is one of the very few drivers that has yet to finish outside the top-20 through the opening three races of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season.

But, we’ll let Joseph fill you in on all of the other reasons that LaJoie would make sense as Hendrick’s ‘Super Sub’.
