William Byron Takes Charlotte Xfinity Win in NASCAR Overtime
William Byron dominated the early portion of Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series BetMGM 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway as he swept Stages 1 and 2, and was looking to be a runaway winner of the race. However, a speeding penalty on pit road heading into the final Stage of the race gave everyone else a fighting chance.
Justin Allgaier took over as the dominant driver of the race as Byron spent the entire final Stage trying to claw his way back into contention. Fortunately, for Byron, a rash of cautions in the closing laps allowed him to pit for tires with 20 laps to go, which gave him the firepower he needed to get back into contention.
In an overtime restart, Byron was able to work past Allgaier for the race lead coming to the white flag, and a crash involving Jeb Burton, Brennan Poole, and Leland Honeyman on the final lap froze the field and secured the win for Byron.
