Briscoe Uses Teammate Push to Win Talladega; Advance to Championship 4
Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) is going to be very well-represented in the NASCAR Cup Series season-finale at Phoenix Raceway, with at least two of its three playoff-eligible drivers now guaranteed a spot in the Championship 4.
After Denny Hamlin fought tooth-and-nail to secure his 60th victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last weekend, at the expense of Chase Briscoe, the Mitchell, Indiana-native took fate into his own hands, winning the YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.
Briscoe was able to make it happen with some help from his non-playoff teammate, Ty Gibbs, who gave the No. 19 Bass Pro Shops Toyota Camry XSE a mighty shove to the front of the pack in NASCAR Overtime, getting the 30-year-old driver across the line first.

Playoff Driver Chase Elliott Out in Massive Wreck in Stage 1 at Talladega
Chase Elliott, one of the eight remaining drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, is out of Sunday’s YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway after a multi-car accident towards the end of Stage 1.
A native of Dawsonville, Georgia, Elliott was running in the middle of the lead draft following a cycle of green-flag pit stops at the 2.66-mile superspeedway, when an accident erupted at the front of the pack, collecting at least 10 cars.
The 29-year-old driver looked like he would be able to successfully avoid the initial wreckage of the incident, when defending Talladega winner, Austin Cindric, moved down the racetrack to avoid the accident — and crashed into the side of the No. 9 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet.
