Alex Bowman, who has been sidelined for the last four NASCAR Cup Series points-paying events, and this past weekend’s NASCAR All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway has officially been cleared to return to action for the Coca-Cola 600.
Bowman suffered a fractured vertebra on April 25th in a sprint car crash at 34 Raceway. As part of his approval process, Bowman drove 170 laps around North Wilkesboro Speedway on Tuesday in a NASCAR-approved medical evaluation test.
Despite missing four point races, Bowman still sits 17th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings, and is just five points outside the Playoffs cut line.

Following a horrific crash between Kyle Larson and Ryan Preece at Talladega Superspeedway, which saw the right-side door rail bars caved in by several feet on Larson’s car, NASCAR has issued optional safety updates to the NASCAR Next Gen Car.
After evaluating both the No. 5 and No. 41 cars that were involved in the crash, NASCAR approved the addition of six right-side door bar gussets that will add additional strength to the right-side door cage. Additionally, NASCAR has mandated the removal of the front clip v-brace, which will soften the front ends of the Next Gen cars.
NASCAR will conduct a two-day crash test at a facility in Ohio on Wednesday and Thursday to determine if additional changes are necessary,
