Justin Allgaier Steals Xfinity Win at Homestead in NASCAR Overtime
Justin Allgaier was the biggest benefactor of an overtime-inducing late-race caution, which wiped out a more than 16-second lead for Kyle Larson in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Hard Rock Bet 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
As Larson received contact from Sam Mayer on the final restart, Austin Hill and Allgaier were able to scoot past to battle it out for the race win. Ultimately, Allgaier would take the lead on the final lap of the race, and would blast back to the finish line to record his second-consecutive race win following last week’s triumph at Las Vegas.
Mayer would rebound to finish second, while Hill, Larson, and Sheldon Creed rounded out the top-five finishers.

Kyle Larson’s Weekend Sweep Derailed By Mayer’s Overzealous Jump
Kyle Larson looked to be heading to a win in the second leg of a potential three-race NASCAR National Series weekend sweep at Homestead-Miami Speedway. That is until fate intervened.
A late race caution, wiped out Larson’s insurmountable lead, and sent the race to Overtime. In Overtime, Larson had his rear tires lifted off the ground when Sam Mayer mistimed Larson’s launch in the GEICO Restart Zone, which led to Larson losing out in heartbreaking fashion.
“I’ve lived through it a number of times here, but obviously a bummer again to have another Homestead race play out that way,” said Kyle Larson post-race. “Just I can’t go anywhere when my rear tires are off of the ground.”
“I know it looks like I choked another one away but I did everything I thought I could. [Sam Mayer] just lagged back and slammed the shit out of me, and my rear wheels came off the ground. So, bummer, but cool to have as big of a lead as we had, but would have loved to get a win for everybody on this [Hendrick Motorsports] No. 17.”
Alex Bowman Secures Pole Position at Homestead; Josh Berry Second
Alex Bowman snuffed out Noah Gragson’s bid for his first career NASCAR Cup Series pole position on Saturday afternoon. Gragson, the fifth car to take to the track in qualifying, took the provisional pole and held onto it the entire session until Bowman knocked him from the pole with just two cars remaining in the qualifying session.
After Bowman took the provisional pole, last week’s race winner Josh Berry nabbed the second starting spot for Sunday’s Straight Talk Wireless 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
