Hendrick Motorsports Confirms Allgaier as Larson’s Stand-in at Wilkesboro and Charlotte
On Wednesday, Hendrick Motorsports officially announced that Justin Allgaier will practice and qualify Kyle Larson’s No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet at North Wilkesboro Speedway ahead of Sunday’s NASCAR All-Star Race, and Allgaier will once again be tapped as the reserve driver for Larson next weekend as the driver attempts to compete in the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 in the same day.
Cliff Daniels, Larson’s crew chief states the decision to select Allgaier, who finished 13th in a fill-in role for Larson in last year’s Coca-Cola 600, was made due to Allgaier having similar stature, which allows them to keep the same seat in the car for both drivers.
Additionally, Allgaier has a vast knowledge of driving the Next Gen car as he has been Chevrolet’s dedicated test driver of its Wheel Force car.
