Alex Bowman Ruled Out for Phoenix (Vertigo); Alfredo to Drive No. 48
Unfortunately, Alex Bowman will be unable to compete in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Straight Talk Wireless 500 at Phoenix Raceway as he has not been medically cleared for the event. Anthony Alfredo, the Hendrick and Chevrolet simulator driver, will drive in Bowman’s place.
However, the driver and his No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports team now have an answer as to why the driver had to climb from the car early in last Sunday’s event at Circuit of the Americas. FOX Sports pit spotter Myatt Snider finished the race out for Bowman.
After the COTA race weekend, Bowman was diagnosed with vertigo, and the team concluded that Bowman was suffering vertigo symptoms in the car, which forced him to exit on Lap 71.
“Alex has worked very hard over the last several days,” said Jeff Andrews, President of Hendrick Motorsports. “We’re encouraged by the progress he’s making, but we have to prioritize his health above all else. It’s obviously frustrating for him because he’s a competitor and wants to be in the race car, especially at his home track. We’ll continue to support Alex and look forward to his return as soon as he’s medically cleared.”
